{"id":37,"date":"2019-06-05T04:14:29","date_gmt":"2019-06-05T04:14:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/estudiopatagon.com\/themes\/wordpress\/breek\/?p=37"},"modified":"2019-06-20T21:40:25","modified_gmt":"2019-06-20T21:40:25","slug":"on-icy-pluto-volcanoes-may-spout-liquid-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/estudiopatagon.com\/themes\/wordpress\/breek\/on-icy-pluto-volcanoes-may-spout-liquid-water\/","title":{"rendered":"On Icy Pluto, Volcanoes May Spout Liquid Water"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A whiff of ammonia in reddish ices on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/43-pluto-the-ninth-planet-that-was-a-dwarf.html\">Pluto<\/a>&nbsp;may be evidence of recent geological activity on the dwarf planet, with liquid water spewing out from Pluto&#8217;s depths like molten lava would on Earth, a new study finds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These findings suggest that Pluto may harbor at least some features favorable to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/search-for-life\">evolution of life<\/a>, researchers said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scientists analyzed data that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18377-new-horizons.html\">NASA&#8217;s New Horizons probe<\/a>&nbsp;gathered during its flyby of the dwarf planet in 2015. In this data, they found evidence of ammonia on Pluto&#8217;s surface in areas that previous research suggested had experienced tectonic activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;In recent years, ammonia has been a bit like the &#8216;holy grail&#8217; of planetary science,&#8221; study lead author Cristina Dalle Ore, a planetary scientist at NASA&#8217;s Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California, told Space.com. One reason for this is that ammonia is a key ingredient in chemical reactions underlying life as we know it, &#8220;and therefore, when found, it flags [the presence of] an environment that is conducive to life.
